I wanted to send a reminder that students should come with a logo shirt for our trip tomorrow. Students should wear durable, yet comfortable, walking/hiking shoes for the trip. We will be doing quite a bit of walking and taking a hike to Horse Tail Falls. Students should also pack a sack lunch as there will be no place to warm up lunch plates, or stop for a bite to eat. Our departure time is 8:15 AM and we plan on returning no later than 3:30 PM. See you all tomorrow morning. Please feel free to download the linked map for directions to our destination.

It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of our school year with a little more than a month and a half to go. As we enter these final months we have lots of activities planned and will need many chaperones to assist us with transportation and supervision. Please make time to join us, we would love to have your participation as a parent, grandparent or guardian. Please remember that to transport students you must have a background clearance on file with the school. Please see me, and I will be sure to get you the form(s) need to complete. I'm huge advocate for physical activity and the connections it has to the brain and learning patterns. Good Morning America shared a video segments earlier this morning about the benefits. What do you think, should we throw out the chairs and give kids bouncy balls to sit on? Just a friendly reminder that Tricia Brown, local author, will be on campus today to give a book talk. She will be visiting individual classrooms beginning at 12:30 PM and will be available to personally sign books from 2:45 PM until 3:30 PM. Just fill out the order form and have your child bring in the form. Our class will be in Krenzler Hall from 1:15 to 1:45 PM. Have a great day. Please remember that Scholastic Book orders are due today, there is still time to turn them in at the end of the school day. Also, please remind your student that reading logs need to signed and returned each week (it counts for 10% of the reading grade). Scappoose School District has announced a 2 hour late start for Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Please be advised that I will be in my classroom as soon as I can safely get there. Classes begin at 10:00 AM. So I've posted a support tool to help your student with spelling help. It's called Spelling City and it has a variety of online activities to help prepare your child for upcoming spelling tests. There is also the capability for students to enter their own lists (perhaps a vocabulary list?) and testing one self. Students will have been instructed in how to access and use this tool this week. Have them show you how it works! Also, here is the scoop on upcoming assessments for the next couple of weeks. I got word about this neat math event. Wow, I can hardly believe that it's is 2009. Just wrapped up planning for the quarter a short while ago and wanted to let you know that the "gingerbread houses" started before the Christmas break will be completed on Friday. Also, it is very important that all students turn in completed winter sports program paperwork by this Friday, January 9. Click on the links below for program information and Mt. Hood Meadows Release Form, or stop by the office to pick up forms including the rental form which is not included below. For the latest classroom happenings please click on our latest class notes; also this Monday, December 15, students are in for a special treat. Children's author, Tricia Brown, will be speaking to the students and selling her latest book. Please click on the link advertising her visit with us. |
